People’s Climate March
October 6, 2014鈥擮n September 21, 2014, a group of Georgetown students joined hundreds of thousands of other students and climate activists at the People鈥檚 Climate March (PCM) on the streets of New York City to demand action from world leaders at the United Nations Climate Summit. Taylor Harding (C鈥�18), a first-year student, headed to New York to take part in the march.
鈥淚 was invited to attend the PCM by a student in my English class, who I befriended over our shared interest in the environment and the issue of climate change. I didn鈥檛 realize how big of a deal the event would at first, but once we arrived, you could tell that New York City had been dramatically taken over by marchers,鈥� Harding said.
鈥淭here were more than 400,000 people there, and it was an inspiring, eye-opening experience. Climate change is the epitome of a global issue, and the solution to it seems very hard to achieve, but seeing how many people were in New York that day鈥攁s well as all of the other cities around the world that were also holding marches鈥攕olidified a sense of hope for our future, so long as we all keep trying to affect change.鈥�
