Friday Music Series
March 28, 2013鈥擳丑别 鈥� features acclaimed artists in concerts on select Fridays throughout the year. These free concerts begin at 1:15 p.m. in McNeir Hall. - February 1, Modern Musick: Part of Jesuit Heritage Week, this concert included 17th- and 18th-century instrumental and vocal music composed for Jesuit schools. The show featured the acclaimed period-instrument ensemble Modern Musick, in residence in the Department of Performing Arts鈥� Music Program
- February 8, Sean Gallagher and Richard Giarusso: Baritone Richard Giarusso returned to the Friday Music Series for a recital of Schubert lieder鈥攊ncluding the late Leitner settings and 鈥淒ie Taubenpost,鈥� the last song that Schubert wrote鈥攁ccompanied by pianist Sean Gallagher of Boston.
- February 15, Gerdan: Playing acoustic folk instruments, these three exceptional musicians performed an energetic concert drawing from the musical traditions of Eastern Europe. The concert included original arrangements of traditional songs alongside classical and modern compositions by Dvo艡谩k, Skoryk, Monti, and Gershwin.
- February 22, Kevin Deas and Lura Johnson: Bass-baritone Kevin Deas and pianist Lura Johnson performed a recital as part of the PostClassical Ensemble鈥檚 Dvo艡谩k in America festival.
- March 15, Leo Lucini and friends, co-presented by the : Brazilian-born bassist Leo Lucini, who is also a member of the band Origem, performed a unique brand of Brazilian jazz.
- March 22, Sara MacKimmie, Jennifer Ellis Kampani, Mark Janello, and Amy Domingues: Featuring 鈥淟e莽ons de T茅n猫bres鈥� (Music for Holy Week) by Fran莽ois Couperin and other selected French Baroque works, the quartet showcased early musical instruments: the portative organ and viola da gamba.
