Benton-Cohen Awarded Japan Residency

Professor Katherine Benton-Cohen of the Department of HistoryMay 9, 2018 鈥  of the has received the .

Sponsored by the and the with support from , the program enables two American historians to travel to Japan for two weeks, lecturing and advising Japanese students on American history topics.

An associate professor of history, Benton-Cohen specializes in the 19th- and 20th-century history of the American West. She has published two books:  in 2009 and in 2018.

During her residency in Japan, Benton-Cohen will discuss 鈥渢ransnational and transborder movements of people, ideas, institutions, and material culture in the twentieth century, including themes like immigration, race, gender, and such borderlands as the American West.鈥
