American Studies Program Kicks off 50th Anniversary Celebrations

May 29, 2018 鈥 The at Georgetown 海角论坛 celebrates 50 years since its founding with an alumni luncheon this week in Boston, kicking off a year of events across the country to commemorate the program鈥檚 golden anniversary.

The luncheon will feature remarks by Dean Christopher Celenza, , and Richie Mullaney聽(C’18), a recent graduate and American studies major who will discuss his senior thesis project, Forgetting Founders Day: How the Americanization of Georgetown University鈥檚 Catholic Identity Transformed a Campus Tradition.

鈥淕eorgetown鈥檚 American Studies Program emphasizes building connections 鈥 across disciplines and among students and faculty. As we celebrate the Program鈥檚 history, we hope that events like this will give our alumni the chance to renew those connections,鈥 said , director of the program.

Founded in 1969, the American Studies Program offers an interdisciplinary major that encourages students to ask critical questions about power, identity, and American culture.

The anniversary kickoff luncheon will be held at the Union Club of Boston on May 31, 2018.
